Should I teach Yoga? Is this right for me?
One of the biggest leaps in life is from student to teacher, but isn't it true that all teachers are perennial students? Do you have questions about the perceived problems of teaching Yoga? Whether you are a teacher or student, you can share your questions, concerns, or answers.

Regulations
Yoga teachers are subject to many different types of regulations, depending on where they live, and work, and whether they are self-employed, independent contractors, own their own studio, or work for someone else. Regulations you may need to be aware of can vary from those that are business related (such as business licensing and taxes) to those that carry health responsibilities (such as ensuring that students are informed about safe and proper techniques) and liability or insurance concerns. What have your experiences been with regulations? What difficulties have you encountered? Can you offer suggestions and tips for teachers who are just beginning? Please be sure to mention where you live so we can learn how things are done elsewhere.

Restorative Yoga
The Restorative Yoga teacher training course we teach has a little extra emphasis on Anatomy and its specific relationship to Yoga. It also contains a complete section on contraindications, lesson plans for ailments, use of props, and modifications. In total, it is a 320 hour Yoga teacher course. Do you have any questions about this course? Would you like to share your experiences in taking this or a similar Yoga course?

Level 1
The generally agreed number of minimum training hours is 200, but there are level 1 yoga programs with 320 training hours or more. Do you feel the standards are just right? Can level 1 be covered in less than 100 hours? Our Yoga teacher correspondence course averages 240 hours to complete. Do you think it covers too much? No matter who trained you for level 1, what would you like to be emphasized in the syllabus? Was any subject overdone?

Kids Yoga
Kids Yoga is catching on, but some geographic areas seem to struggle with captivating the interest of children. Is this due to teaching techniques or is it a regional difference? Is Kids Yoga an untapped market, where children learn life skills and stay fit? Is Yoga a good form of therapy for attention deficit disorders? Can you picture yourself playing, Yoga games with children? What goes on in a Kids Yoga class?

Level 2
Most level 2 Yoga teacher training programs average 500 training hours minimum and 100 hours of teaching time. Do you feel this is enough? What do you think the emphasis of level 2 training should be? Should it expand into each area of your training, or are there specific areas you would like to cover in more depth.

Yoga and specific health conditions
Has Yoga helped you or someone you know with an ailment? Do you have questions about asanas, pranayama, or diet for specific conditions? More and more people want natural solutions rather than radical therapy. Sometimes, we have no choice, but to opt for radical medical procedures. In this forum we'll discuss the role of Yoga as an option for treatment of ailments and conditions.

Yoga for seniors - is it safe?
More and more seniors are participating regularly in Yoga.
They are a very enthusiastic and appreciative age group and they also often have a little extra time to reap the many benefits of Yoga.
But where do seniors study Yoga? Has Yoga been safely modified for seniors? Why is it that Grandma takes more Yoga classes than anyone in the family?
Some of us are seniors already, and some of us will be very soon. Please let us know what you think.

Prenatal Yoga (Yoga during pregnancy)
Has Prenatal Yoga helped you or a friend? Prenatal Yoga has many benefits for expectant mothers. However, there are also many contraindications and each Yoga teacher and prospective Yoga student should be aware of them. A few of these conditions include persistent bleeding, diabetes, hypertension, pre-term labor, cervical insufficiency, or pubic pain. What are your thoughts and experiences about Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga?

Yoga for Kids - any concerns?
More children are getting exposure to Yoga at an early age. Many of us see the benefits for children dealing with attention deficit disorders and the battle against obesity. Have you seen benefits for children taking Yoga classes? What about safety issues? Should we be supervising them once they start to practice at home? Should parents take an active role and participate with children? These are just a few of the many issues involved when children start Yoga practice. What are your thoughts?

Yogic dieting and Ayurveda
Is it as simple as understanding your Dosha, or should everyone be eating a more alkaline diet? Does Ayurveda seem too complicated to grasp the concepts? There are a lot of misconceptions about Ayurveda exercise prescriptions and dieting. This is a very vast field. We welcome the opinions of Ayurvedic doctors and the general public.

Types of Yoga
Please let us know your thoughts on your favorite type of Yoga and why? (NOTE: This is not an open door for back biting. Although some of us have different opinions on classroom safety, the amount of physical exercise, lack of meditation time, or Pranayama, and other issues, it is best to express positive opinions about your style or type of Yoga.)

Sanskrit - What does that mean in English?
Do you feel that using Sanskrit terms in an English speaking class is confusing? Or would you rather teachers used more Sanskrit? Do you feel that two or three names in English for the same pose are confusing? Would you just like to learn some Sanskrit terms? This forum is for sharing and learning about Sanskrit.
